Michael John Smith

Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd

A graduate of Tulane University (BFA Musical Theatre), Michael has been a part of the New Orleans performing arts community with the United States Marine Corps, Summer Lyric Theatre at Tulane, Jefferson Performing Arts Society, and Rivertown Theatre.  He first appeared on this stage with NOVEMBER (2019) as Chief Dwight Grackle and is so excited to be back for the 2022-2023 season in Kinky Boots (Don) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Sheriff). He is a retired Marine Corps officer (32 years) that includes 3 combat deployments, the Director of the three Marine Corps Bands to include two tours with the Marine Corps Band New Orleans, and Head of Marine Corps Field Music at the Pentagon in Washington D.C.  Currently he teaches High School seniors at the New Orleans Military & Maritime Academy as a Senior Military Instructor.  Past local productions include “Santa Meets Sousa” Marine Corps Toys for Tots Holiday Spectacular (2006-2008, 2015 & 2016), Mr. Mushnick in Little Shop of Horrors (2009), Rev Winemiller in Eccentricities of a Nightingale (2011), Chief Sitting Bull in Annie Get Your Gun (2017), Snyder in Newsies (2018), Pat Denning in 42nd Street (2019), Mal Beinecke in The Addams Family (2021), and Captain O’Hurley in FLY (2022) that will have a second run at the WWII Museum in February of 2023.
